Sir,
FOR BOARD OF TRADE CONCURRENCE
30
I am directed by Mr. Secretary Griffiths
to refer to your letter of the 17th January,
regarding your war losses in Hong Kong and to say
that the Extended Far Eastern Private Chattels
Scheme (War Damage) is financed from United Kingdom
funds, and administered by the Board of Trade with
which Department rests the decision as to an
applicant's eligibility under the Scheme.
It is
not therefore a matter in which the Secretary of
State for the Colonies can intervene.
I am to add that it is understood from
the Board of Trade that provided that you are otherwise eligible, a payment could be made to you
if you were to take up permanent residence in
Northern Ireland.
i
I am,
sir,
Your obedient Servant,
